Ziloufs is located on Upper Street in Islington, North London.
Why we love it?
The food is delicious and comes in good portions. The service is good. and best of all it's well priced. A main will cost you around £12 and on Wednesday and Thursday you can get two courses for £15.
Ziloufs describes it's menu as Pan-Asian. In practise this meant that the menu was a modern and fresh take on all your Asian favourites and includes in abundance all those great hallmarks of Asian food, ginger, chilli, coriander, sprouts, peanuts - you get the just.
There also a happy hour. Everyday of the week from 5pm to 7pm. Half price cocktails from a selected few. We love cheap drinks, especially cocktails which typically cost the same amount as a return trip to gatwick, but they're reasonably priced to begin with, around the £8 mark. So, sharing a few cocktails is not a bad way to start your night.
What's the quirk?
Well the quirk is that you are eating Asian food is a very un-Asian setting. This I found quite disconcerting. I loved the food. I loved the setting but I just didn't think they created synergy. Call me old fashioned but I think the ambience of a restaurant should compliment the food.
Parting thoughts
Despite saying what I've said, II still loved it! I will definitely go back. Even though the food was great, I think I like it more as a bar than a restaurant.
But don't let me deter you from dinner. Ziloufs is definitely worth a try yourself.
